19.27

秀州禪悅知相禪師上堂曰。或住城隍或住山。任緣無事可相關。有時默坐令人笑。道是閑時又不閑。且問諸人。為什麼却成不閑。大眾還會麼。良久曰。昨朝秋令盡。今日孟冬初。

Chan Master Zhixiang of Chanyue in Xiuzhou ascended the hall and said, "Either dwelling in the city walls or dwelling in the mountains, / Entrusted to conditions, with no affairs to be concerned about. / At times sitting silently makes people laugh; / They say it is leisure, yet it is not leisure. / Let me ask you all: why does it turn out not to be leisure? Does the great assembly understand?" After a long pause, he said, "Yesterday autumn ended; today early winter begins."
