19.32

睦州烏龍山廣堅禪師。上堂良久曰。明珠在掌別者還稀。寶鏡當臺何人委悉。鋒前一路截斷眾流。言下千差隨波逐浪。所以道。棒頭取證喝下承當。擬議之間新羅國裏。如斯舉唱曲為初機。若是明眼高流不在鑽龜打瓦。珍重。

Chan Master Guangjian of Mount Wulong in Muzhou ascended the hall. After a long pause, he said, "The bright jewel is in the palm, yet those who discern it are still rare. The precious mirror is before the stand; who is it that fully understands? The one road before the blade's edge cuts off all streams; a thousand differences beneath the words follow the waves and pursue the billows. Therefore it is said: at the stick's end attain verification; under the shout take responsibility. In hesitation and deliberation, you are already in the kingdom of Silla. Instructional discourses such as these are accommodated for beginners; if one is of the clear-eyed superior stream, it is not a matter of boring tortoise shells and striking roof tiles. Take care!"
