19.34

睦州清溪西禪智誠禪師示眾曰。庭凋一葉之梧。普天秋色。雲過數行之雁。匝地寒聲。忽薦西風䪺清野水。頭頭顯露物物全彰。有眼底總見。有耳底總聞。且道佛法在什麼處。良久曰。多少分明。

Chan Master Zhicheng of Xichan in Qingxi, Muzhou, instructed the assembly, saying: "When a single parasol leaf falls in the courtyard, the whole world is colored with autumn. When several lines of wild geese pass through the clouds, the entire earth resounds with chilly calls. Suddenly the west wind is recognized, shivering across the clear wild waters. In every single thing it is revealed; in every phenomenon it is fully displayed. Those with eyes all see it; those with ears all hear it. But tell me, where is the Buddha Dharma?" After a long silence, he said: "How distinct and clear!"
