興元府大中仁辯禪師。僧問。如何是焦崖境。師曰。庭前寒柏老。祖意不西來。僧云。如何是境中人。師曰。胡僧深碧眼。跣足躡階行。

Chan Master Renbian of Dazhong in Xingyuan Prefecture. A monk asked, 'What is the environment of the Scorched Cliff?' The Master said, 'Before the courtyard, the cold cypress is old; the Patriarch's intent did not come from the West.' The monk said, 'Who is the person within the environment?' The Master said, 'The barbarian monk with deep blue eyes walks bare-footed up the stone steps.'
