Hermit Zu, after meeting Qingyuan, built a thatched hut in the Heng Mountains. For more than thirty years, no one knew of him. Once, giving vent to his feelings, he composed a verse: 'In a small pot boiling vegetables, on top steaming rice; / When the vegetables are done and the rice fragrant, a person is just hungry. / Once the hungry storehouse is patched, there is nothing to do; / Tomorrow morning, follow the pattern and paint the cat.' Thereupon patch-robed monks parted the brambles to consult him. Lord Zhang Wujin strongly urged him to open the Dharma hall, but he would not comply, and in the end passed away on this mountain.
