Chan Master Yixi of Baizhang in Longxing Prefecture was a native of Xinghua. He ascended the hall [and said], "Mātanga entered the Han, and Bodhidharma came to the Liang. Once the tracks of their carts were formed, later descendants opened their eyes only to lose their way. If one is an alert fellow, one will never pick flowers in the sky or clutch at the moon in the waves. To vainly exhaust one's mind and energy—what is the point after all? Today this mountain monk is already piling up a mound of bones on flat ground. When everyone walks, let each look closely with spirit!"
