Chan Master Changlu Miaojue Huiwu of Zhenzhou ascended the hall and said, 'The entire great earth is a gate of liberation, yet even when dragged by the hand people refuse to enter. Why did old man Xuefeng coerce people? Once having arrived here, why are your nostrils in someone else's hands?' After a long pause, he said, 'Greedily gazing at the moon in heaven, one loses the oar in one's hand.' A monk asked, 'The wild goose passes through the boundless sky, its shadow sinks in the cold water. The goose has no intention of leaving a trace; the water has no mind to sink the shadow. Is this truly so or not?' The master said, 'Reed flowers on both banks are snow; river water beneath a sky of autumn.' The monk asked, 'What about when going forward just like this?' The master said, 'What about the wild goose passing through the boundless sky?' The monk hesitated. The master said, 'A sharp patch-robed monk.'
