24.34

福州龜山義初禪師上堂。久默斯要不務速說。釋迦老子寐語作麼。我今為汝保任斯事終不虛也。大似壓良為賤。既不恁麼畢竟如何。白雲籠嶽頂翠色轉崔嵬。

Chan Master Guishan Yichu of Fuzhou ascended the hall and said, 'Remaining silent for long about this essential, not rushing to preach it quickly—why did old Śākya talk in his sleep? "I now preserve this matter for you; in the end it is not in vain"—this is very much like forcing the free into servitude. Since it is not so, after all what is it? White clouds envelope the mountain peak; green hues turn ever more towering.'
