24.48

福州雪峯慧深首座示眾。未得入頭應切切。入頭已得須教徹。雖然得入本無無。莫守無無無間歇。大洪聞之乃曰。深兄說禪若此。惜福緣不勝耳。一日普說罷。揮偈辭眾以筆一拍而化。

Head Monk Huishen of Xuefeng in Fuzhou showed the assembly: 'If you have not attained entry, you should be earnest. Once you have attained entry, you must make it thorough. Although having attained entry there is originally no "nothing", do not cling to "nothing-nothing" without ceasing.' When Dahong heard this, he said, 'Elder brother Shen speaks of Chan like this; it is only a pity that his karmic fortune is not superior.' One day, after concluding a general discourse, he waved his brush, composed a verse to bid farewell to the assembly, struck once with the brush, and passed away.
