Chan Master Fa'an of Huiri in Suzhou was a native of the same prefecture. A monk asked, 'What is the Upādhyāya's single phrase for instructing people?' The master said, 'A dog runs and shakes its mouth.' The monk asked, 'What is the meaning?' The master said, 'A monkey worries and scratches its head.'
