28.43

上曰。卿如何。師舉起一拳隨奏曰。臣山林野人舉止乖疎不識禮度。乞　陛下寬貸。上曰。不妨說禪。又問。得道者誰。師對。學道之人甚眾。隨其器量淺深。入室處可驗。得底人他亦自知時節。昔有曾開侍郎亦近道。

The Emperor said, "What about you?" The Master raised a fist and immediately memorialized, "Your servant is a rustic from the mountain forests; my conduct is awkward and crude, and I do not know proper ritual and decorum. I beg Your Majesty's forbearance." The Emperor said, "It does not impede speaking of Chan." He also asked, "Who are those who have attained the Way?" The Master replied, "Those who study the Way are very numerous. In accordance with the depth of their capacity, it can be verified where they enter the room. Those who have attained it also know the time themselves. Formerly, Vice Minister Zeng Kai was also close to the Way."
