28.88

上曰。如華嚴大經要妙。只在偈讚處。爭如十地頓超。師對。如華嚴經偈讚。只聞得四句則八十一卷華嚴一時了畢。

His Majesty said, "Like the essential subtlety of the great Avataṃsaka Sūtra, it lies only in the verses of praise; how can it compare to suddenly transcending the ten stages?" The Master replied, "As for the verses of praise in the Avataṃsaka Sūtra, if one only hears four lines, then all eighty-one fascicles of the Avataṃsaka are completed in an instant."
