29.13

吉州大中祥符清海禪師。初見佛鑑。鑑問。三世諸佛一口吞盡。何處更有眾生可教化。此理如何。師擬進語。鑑喝之。師忽領旨。述偈曰。實際從來不受塵。箇中無舊亦無新。青山況是吾家物。不用尋家別問津。鑑曰。放下著。師禮拜而出。

Chan Master Qinghai of Da Zhong Xiangfu Monastery in Jizhou first went to see Foyan. Foyan asked, 'If you swallow all the Buddhas of the three periods of time at a single gulp, where are there any sentient beings left to teach and transform? What is the principle of this?' The master was about to offer words when Foyan shouted at him. The master suddenly grasped the lineage intent and presented a gāthā, saying: 'The bhūtakoṭi from the first receives no dust; / Within it there is neither old nor new. / Green mountains moreover are our family possession; / No need to seek a home or ask the crossing elsewhere.' Foyan said, 'Put it down.' The master bowed and departed.
