成都府昭覺辯禪師上堂。毫釐有差天地懸隔。隔江人唱鷓鴣詞。錯認胡笳十八拍。要會麼。欲得現前莫存順逆。五湖煙浪有誰爭。自是不歸歸便得。

Chan Master Bian of Zhaojue in Chengdu Prefecture ascended the hall and said: "'A fraction of a hair's breadth of difference, and heaven and earth are far apart.' When across the river someone sings the 'Song of the Partridge', it is mistaken for 'Eighteen Beats of the Nomad Flute'. Do you wish to understand? 'If you wish it to appear before you, do not harbor favor or adversity.' Who contends over the misty waves of the five lakes? If you simply do not return—return, and you have it!"
