33.20

太平州隱靜圓極彥岑禪師。台城人也。上堂。韓信打關。未免傷鋒犯手張良燒棧。大似曳尾靈龜。既然席卷三秦。要且未能囊弓裹革煙塵自靜。我國晏然四海九州盡歸皇化。自然牛閑馬放。風以時雨以時。五穀熟萬民安。大家齊唱村田樂。月落參橫夜向闌。上堂。今朝八月初五。好事分明為舉。嶺頭漠漠秋雲。樹底鳴鳩喚雨。昨夜東海鯉魚。吞却南山猛虎。雖然有照有用。畢竟無賓無主。唯有文殊普賢住住我識得爾。上堂。舉正堂辯和尚室中問學者。蚯蚓為甚麼化為百合。師曰。客舍并州已十霜。歸心日夜憶咸陽。無端更渡桑乾水。却望并州是故鄉。

Chan Master Yuanji Yancen of Yinjing in Taiping Prefecture was a native of Taicheng. He ascended the hall: 'Han Xin's assault on the pass could not avoid blunt blades and wounded hands; Zhang Liang's burning of the trestle-roads closely resembled a sacred tortoise dragging its tail. Even though they swept through the three Qin regions, in the end they could not stow the bows, encase the armors, and let the smoke and dust settle naturally. When our country is peaceful and serene, with the four seas and nine provinces all returning to the imperial transformation, naturally cattle rest and horses are put out to pasture; the wind is timely and the rain is timely; the five grains ripen and the myriad people are at ease, everyone singing the village-field songs in unison: / The moon sets, Orion tilts, and the night nears its end.' He ascended the hall: 'Today is the fifth day of the eighth month, / A good event is clearly brought up for you: / Over the mountain ridge, dense autumn clouds; / Beneath the trees, cooing doves call for rain. / Last night a carp in the Eastern Sea / Swallowed whole the fierce tiger of South Mountain. / Although there is illumination and function, / In the end there is neither guest nor host. / Only Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra— / Stay, stay! I recognize you.' He ascended the hall and brought up Upādhyāya Zhengtang Bian asking a student in the abbot's room, 'Why does an earthworm transform into a lily?' The master said: / 'Lodging as a guest in Bingzhou for ten winters already, / My homesick heart day and night remembers Xianyang. / For no reason having crossed the Sanggan River once again, / Looking back towards Bingzhou, it has become my homeland.'
