潭州石霜宗鑒禪師上堂。送舊年迎新歲。動用不離光影內。澄輝湛湛夜堂寒。借問諸人會不會。若也會增瑕纇。若不會依前昧。與君指箇截流機。白雲更在青山外。

Chan Master Zongjian of Shishuang in Tanzhou ascended the hall: 'Seeing off the old year, welcoming the new year; / Activity does not leave the midst of light and shadows. / Clear brilliance is pure and deep, the night hall is cold. / I ask you all: do you understand or not? / If you understand, flaws are added; / If you do not understand, you remain deluded as before. / I point out to you the pivot that cuts off the flow: / White clouds lie yet beyond the green mountains.'
