溫州龍鳴在庵賢禪師。上堂舉崇壽示眾曰。識得凳子周匝有餘。雲門道。識得凳子天地懸殊。師曰。崇壽老漢坐殺天下人。雲門大師走殺天下人。龍鳴則不然。識得凳子四脚著地。要坐便坐要起便起。上堂舉趙州勘婆話頌曰。氷雪佳人貌最奇。常將玉笛向人吹。曲中無限花心動。獨許東君第一枝。

Chan Master Longming Zai'an Xian of Wenzhou ascended the hall and cited Chongshou's instruction to the assembly: '"Recognizing the bench is all-around more than enough." Yunmen said, "Recognizing the bench, heaven and earth are worlds apart."' The master said: 'Old fellow Chongshou made everyone in the world sit to death; Great Master Yunmen made everyone in the world run to death. Longming is not like this: recognizing that a bench has four legs on the ground, if you want to sit, just sit; if you want to stand, just stand!' Ascending the hall, he cited the story of Zhaozhou examining the old woman and praised it in verse: 'The fair lady of ice and snow has a most exquisite countenance; / She often blows her jade flute toward others. / Within the melody, boundless flower hearts are moved; / Only the first branch is granted to the Lord of Spring.'
