35.30

黃龍慧開禪師字無門。杭州人。作朝陽補衲偈曰。寒時急用底物。趁暖著些針線。忽然臘月到來。免致脚忙手亂。

Chan Master Huikai of Huanglong was styled Wumen. He was a native of Hangzhou. Composing a gāthā on facing the sun and mending his robes, he said: 'The thing urgently needed when it is cold: / Take advantage of the warmth to put in some stitches. / When the twelfth month suddenly arrives, / It will keep hands and feet from flustered hurry.'
