35.31

潭州石霜竹岩妙印禪師。作對月看經偈曰。未動舌頭文彩露。五千餘卷一時周。若言待月重開卷。敢保驢年未徹頭。

Chan Master Zhuyan Miaoyin of Shishuang in Tanzhou composed a gāthā on reading sūtras facing the moon: 'Before moving the tongue, the patterned brilliance is revealed; / More than five thousand fascicles are completed all at once. / If you say one must wait for the moon to open the scroll again, / I dare guarantee that even in the year of the donkey you will not have finished.'
