Chan Master Yuanchu Baoyue of Tianzhang in Yuezhou. A monk asked: “What is the great meaning of the Buddha Dharma?” The Master said: “Three hundred and sixty days in a year.” The monk said: “What happens when one understands it just so?” The Master said: “A distant hundred thousand [li] is not far.”
Ascending the hall, he said: “The sounds of the drum are scattered and uneven; the colors of the mountain are towering and steep. Since originally they do not exist, from where do they come?” After a good while, he said: “Cast your eyes high.”
