齊州興化延慶禪師。上堂。言前薦得孤負平生。句後投機全乖道體。離此二途祖宗門下又且如何。良久曰。眼裏瞳兒吹木笛。

Chan Master Yanqing of Xinghua in Qizhou ascended the hall: "To grasp it before words is to fail one's whole life. To match wits after phrases completely contradicts the substance of the Way. Leaving aside these two paths, what about within the gates of the Patriarchal school?" After a long pause, he said, "The pupil in the eye plays a wooden flute."
