Chan Master Yunliang of Xiangshan in Mingzhou. A monk asked, "What is the phrase that penetrates the Dharma body?"
The Master said, "Dancing the Santai atop the temple flagpole."
He asked, "What is the phrase that receives beginners?"
The Master said, "'Shang da ren.'"
He asked, "What is the final phrase?"
The Master said, "Beneath the twin trees."
He asked, "What is the student's place of turning the body?"
The Master said, "In the millhouse."
He ascended the hall, paused for a long while, and then laughed aloud with a "He! He!", saying: "What am I laughing at? I laugh at the great swan flying up into the sky; the tortoise at the bottom of the water chasing fish. Three old women with six breasts; on the back of the vajra[-bearer], rotten like mud. Ah, he! He! Do you know or not? Elder Chen of the eastern village. Practice!"
