蘇州南峯惟廣禪師上堂。一問一答如鐘含響似谷應聲。蓋為事不獲已。且於建化門中放一線道。若據衲僧門下天地懸殊。且道衲僧有甚麼長處。良久曰。盡日覓不得。有時還自來。咄。

Chan Master Weiguang of Nanfeng in Suzhou ascended the hall: "One question and one answer are like a bell containing resonance, like a valley echoing sound. It is only because things cannot be helped that, within the gate of teaching and transformation, a single thread of a way is opened. If judged by what is under the patch-robed monk's gate, heaven and earth are vastly far apart. Tell me, what strong point does a patch-robed monk have?" After a long pause, he said, "Searching for it all day, it cannot be found; at times it comes back by itself. Bah!"
