9.21

滁州琅邪方銃禪師上堂。造物無生物之心。而物物自成。雨露非潤物之意。而靈苗自榮。所以藥劑不食而病自損。良師不親而心自明。故知妙慧靈光不從緣得。到這裏方許爾進步。琅邪與爾別作箇相見。還有麼。若無不可壓良為賤。

Chan Master Langya Fangchong of Chuzhou ascended the hall: "The Maker of Things has no intention to give birth to things, yet thing after thing naturally forms. Rain and dew have no intent to moisten things, yet wondrous sprouts naturally flourish. Therefore, without consuming medicinal concoctions, illness naturally declines; without drawing close to a good master, the mind naturally becomes clear. Hence we know that wondrous wisdom and spiritual illumination are not obtained from conditions. Only when reaching here are you permitted to take a step forward; Langya will meet with you in a different manner. Is there anyone? If not, you must not oppress the fine into the lowly."
