9.33

蘇州崑山般若寺善端禪師。僧問。有生有滅盡是常儀。無生無滅時如何。師曰。崑崙著靴空中立。曰莫便是為人處也無。師曰。石女簪花火裏眠。曰大眾證明。師曰。更看泥牛鬪入海。

Chan Master Shanduan of Bore Temple in Kunshan, Suzhou. A monk asked, "Having birth and having cessation is completely the ordinary course. What is it like when there is no birth and no cessation?" The master said, "A Kunlun slave puts on boots and stands in empty space." [The monk] said, "Might that be where you help people?" The master said, "A barren woman pins a flower in her hair and sleeps amidst the fire." [The monk] said, "May the great assembly bear witness." The master said, "Watch further as the mud ox fights its way into the sea."
