The second generation from Simha was the Venerable Dharmatrāta, a native of Jibin whose clan name is unknown. Initially, he renounced household life under the Venerable *Varika of that country. He was remarkably intelligent and possessed wisdom and eloquence, and his virtue surpassed all the arhats. When *Varika's Dharma diverged into five schools, the Venerable [Dharmatrāta] was foremost in the Dhyāna school. In his later years, he debated with the Venerable Simha, ultimately submitted to his Way, and took him as his master. When Simha was assassinated, Dharmatrāta and his two disciples went into seclusion on Mount Xiangbai in that country. His life span was exceedingly long, exceeding the ordinary measure. The Dharma heirs he produced were two persons: one was Indra, and the other was *Kulagriva.
