There was also a nun there who was likewise of a very wrathful nature. Several days after she died, she manifested her form and told her master: “I have been born into an evil destiny, taking the body of a venomous serpent, dwelling south of the city.” Weeping, she took her leave. Afterwards, sure enough, several li south of the city there was a serpent whose head was as large as a bushel and whose body was thirty feet long. When it moved, it coiled and writhed; whenever it encountered people, it would certainly pursue them. Most of those who encountered it died, and rarely did any escape. Travelers and livestock passing to and fro took this as a deep warning.
