'You have already renounced household life, perpetually taking leave of your kinsfolk, having neither near nor distant relations, being pure and free of desire. When good fortune arrives, you do not rejoice; when misfortune strikes, you do not weep. Transcendent and unconstrained, open and detached from the world, keep your aspiration fixed on the profound and wondrous, taking truth as your model and guarding simplicity. Attaining liberation and broadly rescuing others, all will partake of blessings and prosperity. Why then do you lack such an aim and still cling to contamination and contact, fruitlessly wrangling over long and short, grains and ounces, bushels and pecks? Contending for profit with worldly people, how do you differ from servants? With the scriptural Way unilluminated and virtuous conduct deficient, such a renunciation of household life merely brings ruin and humiliation upon yourself. Now I instruct and point this out: you should cleanse yourselves.'
