3.89

釋惠海者。洞法相源。朗經法宗。自畫無著世親像。思慕所釋深妙。於攝論唯識。頗求決幽。夢二人童子來告曰。汝當生兜率天。汝所圖無著世親。在彼天上。慈氏菩薩為侍者。海白。吾不欣捨壽。暫在人間。住持遺教。天童子曰。汝從我暫往兜率天。決所疑。即從天童。往兜率天。見四十九重摩尼殿。青衣人其中充滿。進入內院。見慈氏及無著世親。皆俗服語海曰。汝不可禮我等。在家出家尊卑不同。須諮問所疑。海述所疑。慈氏使二侍者。為令釋通。復從天童來下。廣弘佛教。然祕此事。不語他人。沒後遺書中注載之。今傳聞錄之。自餘感應良繁。不能具述。今略錄三五。以示信徹發誓。偈曰。

The monk Huihai penetrated the source of the characteristics of dharmas and was luminous regarding the lineage of the sūtra teachings. He personally painted images of Asaṅga and Vasubandhu, contemplating with yearning their profound and wondrous expositions. In regard to the She dasheng lun and Consciousness-Only, he earnestly sought resolution of obscurities. In a dream, two divine youths came to tell him: "You shall be born in Tuṣita Heaven. The Asaṅga and Vasubandhu whom you have depicted are in that heaven, serving as attendants to Maitreya Bodhisattva." Hai said, "I do not rejoice in renouncing my life; I wish to remain briefly in the human realm to maintain the bequeathed teachings." The heavenly youths said, "Come with us temporarily to Tuṣita Heaven to resolve what you doubt." Thereupon he followed the heavenly youths to Tuṣita Heaven, where he saw a forty-nine-layered maṇi palace, with blue-robed people filling it. Entering the inner court, he saw Maitreya as well as Asaṅga and Vasubandhu, all in secular garb, who said to Hai: "You must not bow to us; householders and renunciants differ in status. You should inquire about your doubts." Hai presented what he doubted, and Maitreya instructed his two attendants to explain and resolve them for him. He then descended again with the heavenly youths and widely propagated the Buddha's teachings. However, he kept this matter secret and did not speak of it to others. After his death, it was recorded in his posthumous writings. Now it has been heard through transmission and recorded here. Other sympathetic responses are truly manifold and cannot be related in full; now I have briefly recorded a few to show that faith penetrates and inspires vows. The verse says:
