As for this Abridged Record of Miraculous Responses of the Three Jewels: the sympathetic responses of numinous images constitute the Buddha Jewel; the sympathetic responses of revered sūtras constitute the Dharma Jewel; the sympathetic responses of bodhisattvas constitute the Saṅgha Jewel. Truly, they are eyes and feet for the final age of this defiled world, and a standard for cutting off evil and cultivating goodness. Indeed, faith is the source of the Way and the gathering of merits; practice is the vital path and the foundation of liberation. The Way extends to the three-thousandfold [world] to encourage future believers; the teachings blanket the ten billion [realms] to reveal the traces of images. Now, I briefly present the essentials and sketch the extraordinary omens. If these conditions are neglected, the future will have no evidence [of them]. Selecting and dividing them into three collections, I have made them three fascicles, so as to render them easy to see. The Buddha Jewel Collection, Fascicle One.
