Farther east is the stūpa where Śāriputra attained fruition. Farther east, a large stūpa marks the place where the king obtained one portion of relics, about one hu. King Aśoka took nine sheng from it to build other stūpas equitably. Later, another king wished to open it, but an earthquake occurred, and he ceased. To the northwest is a stūpa and a stone pillar sixty feet high. Next to the south is the pond dug by monkeys for the Buddha. West of the pond is the site where a troop of monkeys took the Buddha's bowl, climbed trees, and gathered honey. South of the pond is where the monkeys offered the honey, each place marked by a stūpa. About four li northeast of the monastery, a stūpa stands at the old residence of Vimalakīrti, where the foundations still retain much numinous wonder. The house was built of piled bricks, though tradition says stacked stone; it is where he expounded the Dharma and manifested illness. Recently, the envoy Wang Xuance measured it with his ceremonial tablet and found it to be only one zhang square; thus the term "one zhang square" (fangzhang) arose from this. In addition, the residence of the elder Ratnarāśi, the house of Āmrapālī, and the place where the Buddha's foster mother entered extinction are all marked with memorial signs. Four li north of the monastery, a stūpa marks where devas and humans stood to see off the Buddha when he was about to set out for Kuśinagara. Next is another stūpa where the Buddha cast his final gaze upon the city.
