2.85

六謂。東晉後秦姚興弘始年。京兆沙門釋智猛。與同志十五人。西自涼州鄯鄯諸國至罽賓。見五百羅漢問顯方俗。經二十年至甲子歲。與伴一人還東。達涼入蜀。宋元嘉末卒成都。遊西有傳。大有明據。題云沙門智猛遊行外國傳。曾於蜀部見之。

The sixth: During the Hongshi era of Yao Xing of the Later Qin, under the Eastern Jin, the śramaṇa Shi Zhimeng of the Capital District, together with fifteen comrades, set out from Liangzhou, passed through the kingdoms of Shanshan and others, and reached Jibin. Seeing five hundred arhats, he inquired about their lands and customs. After twenty years, in the jiazi year, he and one companion returned east, reaching Liang and entering Shu. At the end of the Yuanjia era of the Song, he died in Chengdu. His Western travels are recorded in a biography, which has great and clear evidence; it is entitled *Account of the Śramaṇa Zhimeng's Travels in Foreign Kingdoms*, which I once saw in the Shu region.
