9.20

問曰。刀之與利或如來說形之與神其義不然。何以言之。木之質無知也。人之質有知也。人既有如木之質。而有異木之知。豈非木有其一人有其二耶。

Question: Blade and sharpness may perhaps be as your argument says, but for corporeal form and spirit the principle is not so. Why do I say this? The material substance of wood lacks sentience; the material substance of a human has sentience. Since humans have a material substance like wood and also have sentience different from wood, does not wood possess one [of these] while humans possess both?
