答曰。生滅之體要有其次故也。夫欻而生者。必欻而滅。漸而生者。必漸而滅。欻而生者。飄驟是也。漸而生者。動植是也。有欻有漸物之理也。

Answer: Because the essence of arising and ceasing necessarily has its sequence. What arises suddenly must perish suddenly; what arises gradually must perish gradually. Those that arise suddenly are gusts and torrential downpours; those that arise gradually are animals and plants. Having the sudden and having the gradual is the principle of things.
