11.40

弈云。帝王無佛。則大治年長。有佛則虐政祚短。自庖犧已下。二十九代。而無佛法。君明臣忠。國祚長久。

[Fu] Yi said: 'When emperors and kings had no Buddha, there was great governance and long reigns; when there was a Buddha, there was tyrannical rule and short-lived dynastic fortune. From Baoxi onward for twenty-nine generations, there was no Buddhadharma; rulers were enlightened and ministers loyal, and the dynastic fortunes lasted long.'
