The stupa of Chaohua Temple in Zhengzhou is located more than one hundred li south of the prefecture. Its foundation exists to this day. The monastery complex is entirely constructed of ancient stone masonry with very tight joints, bound by fine iron fastenings. The stones are eight feet long; on all four sides the fine fastenings are one foot five inches long and five inches deep. Beneath the stones it is entirely mud. South of the stupa's foundation, springs emerge in more than ten places, each three feet in diameter, welling up without sound. In the Yonghui reign era, a Kunlun diver entered the spring and went downward to fathom its depths: there were only stone pillars lined in rows, and he could never reach the end. In the midst of it was a stone stupa standing in mid-air, surrounded by congealed water that could not reach it.
