The miraculous image of Changsha Temple in Jingzhou was seen north of the provincial city in the early Taiyuan reign era of the Eastern Jin. Passersby found it extraordinary and struck it with a knife to test it; it was indeed a golden image. Monks of Changsha Temple welcomed it to their temple. On the halo was an inscription in Indic script saying that it was made by King Aśoka. Emperor Wu of the Liang heard of it and had it welcomed to the capital, whereupon it emitted great radiance. When the Liang fell, it was welcomed back to Jingzhou, where it remains to this day. Its radiant marvels across successive dynasties cannot be fully recorded, as shown elsewhere.
