Regarding the miraculous stone image of Fanhe County west of Liangzhou: during the Taiyan reign era of the Northern Wei, the monk Liu Sahe traveled to the northeast of Fanhe. Looking toward the Shenyu Valley, he bowed and said: 'A Buddha image will emerge from this mountain. If its marks are incomplete, the state will fall into disorder and the people will suffer.' After eighty-seven years, in the early Zhengguang reign era, wind and rain shook the mountain, and an image about three zhang tall emerged, but it lacked a head. Orders were immediately given to carve one, but as soon as it was installed, it fell off. The rule of the Wei declined, and it split into Eastern and Western. Forty years later, a stone Buddha head was found in a ravine seven li east of the prefecture, and it was immediately installed, fitting perfectly. During the Baoding reign era of the Northern Zhou, the image's head fell off again. In the beginning of the Sui, it was restored, and Ruixiang Temple was founded. When Emperor Yang passed by on his western campaign, he renamed it Gantong Temple. Today, paintings and drawings are mostly made based on measurements, but none are truly exact.
