During the Sui dynasty, the Buddha hall of Xinghuang Temple in Jiangzhou was burned down. A sixteen-foot bronze image inside stood directly beneath the ridgepole. When the fire broke out and the ridgepole crashed down, the image moved south by five or six feet on its own, so that its form was kept completely safe. All around, tiles, earth, ash, and charcoal lay five or six feet away from the image, without dirtying or staining it at all. It is now at Baima Temple, where neither birds nor sparrows disturb it.
