Your subject Gang states: Your subject has heard that minor singers tapping chariot shafts long for the air of the Feng and the Ya, and shallow tunes of the men of Ba truly look up to the White Snow and Sunny Spring. Therefore, the slender leaves of turnip and mallow still incline toward the morning sun, and the faint glow of a torch cannot extinguish itself. I humbly reflect that Your Majesty's supreme virtue is venerable and bright, and your profound plans are extensively deployed. Divine and sage, your way surpasses Xuan and Gui; fully enlightened and truly realized, your merit accords with the ultimate perfection. Taking the permanent as bliss and the joy of the Dharma as sweetness, the rain of compassion covers the boundless, and wise transformation extends through the unseen and the manifest. Hence the eight winds are harmonized, the four seasons are rectified, the world is settled, and beyond the seas all is at peace. You magnify the majesty of the Dragon Cave and carry on the Dharma of Vulture Peak. Abiding without action, you truly pity the common folk; proclaiming the markless, you lead them back to the realm of truth. You constructed this tree of awakening and revealed this golden countenance, causing those who make vows to form causes, and those who bow in reverence to increase their blessings. The convergent paths have become one; throughout past and present, who could match you? Humbly reflecting that an exposed vessel received the dew and Dong'e presented an inscription; an auspicious omen revealed the yellow dragon and Zhongshan raised a song of praise. Although your subject is not clever, he truly holds an earnest heart. I respectfully present one Eulogy on the Bodhi Tree. My learning falls short of investigating antiquity, and my thought is not profound, insufficient to illuminate your magnificent virtue or reflect even a single corner of it. Looking down, I am embarrassed by my rustic words, and bowing over the paper, I tremble with shame. Respectfully presented.
