The memorial from Xu Prefecture stated: On the third day of the third month, in the early night, ninety li from the prefecture in the northern region, the relics emitted light. The two colours, purple and red, shone inside and outside the prefecture city. The common people all saw the miraculous light. On the seventh day of the fourth month, in the great hall of the prefecture, the relics came out outside the golden bottle, and while circumambulating within the lapis lazuli bottle, they emitted light. On the eighth day, at the pagoda site of Banxing Temple, they again emitted bright light. At midday, as the relics were about to enter the stone reliquary, clouds of five-coloured radiance came over the pagoda, their shape resembling a canopy. On that day, more than one hundred paces southwest of the pagoda—according to the original records of King Aśoka's construction of pagodas—a dried pond was located, not at the four peripheries but right in the centre of the pond, about nine feet deep. Suddenly a sweet-water well spontaneously appeared, its water inconceivable. At that time, more than twenty thousand monastics and laypeople who were watching drank together and saw it together. The recorded auspicious omens are respectfully presented in this memorial to be reported to the throne.
