The memorial from Youzhou stated: On the twenty-sixth day of the third month, the relics were enshrined at Hongye Temple. When the stone casket was first polished and washed on both sides with water, it became as bright as a water mirror, clear through inside and out; purple light flamed forth, and the stone was variegated, resembling agate, lustrous and dazzling, its light like lapis lazuli. On the second day of the fourth month, they began the fast and circumambulation. At the hour of the Pig [9:00–11:00 p.m.] on the third day, incense was burned in offering before the relics; lamplight illuminated the courtyard, and the myriad stars were bright in the night sky. There was a white light expanding and rolling above the Buddha palanquin. On the eighth day, the relics entered the casket; from dawn to the hour of the Dragon [7:00–9:00 a.m.], patterns appeared upon the stone of the casket, faintly resembling the bright and colorful powder-adorned figures of bodhisattvas, and also resembling immortals. Between them were numerous birds, beasts, groves, and trees of extraordinary shapes, truly difficult to examine in detail; those whose veins and patterns were illuminated distinctly have now been drawn and submitted in presentation.
