18.85

弘曰。一悟之談常謂有心。但未有以折中異同之辯。故難於厝言耳。尋覽來論所釋良多。然猶有未好解處。試條如上為呼可容。此疑不既。欲使彼我意盡覽者。泠然又對無兆兼當造膝。執筆增懷。真不可言。

Hong says: Discourse on instantaneous awakening has always been thought to have intent; yet without anything to adjudicate the debate between difference and sameness, it was difficult to frame in words. Looking through your incoming treatise, there are many explanations, yet there are still points not well understood. I tentatively set them out as above to ask whether they can be accommodated. Since these doubts are not exhausted, and wishing to allow both our minds to fully inspect them, I look forward to meeting without omen and kneeling side by side. Holding the brush, my emotions swell; it is truly beyond words.
