Jiang Lue of Yingyang and Wu Shao of Wenxi practiced guiding and pulling [the breath] and nourishing the essence. Being over a hundred years old, their vital spirit was undiminished. Yan Pingxian of Hengnong was well read in the hundred schools of thought, but could not penetrate their core ideas. Nevertheless, his conversational responses were worthy of recording. The Emperor offered him an official post, but he resolutely declined. Lu Qi of Fufeng suffered the cruelty of Helian [Bobo]; he fled to Mount Hanshan, where he taught several hundred people. He was fond of esoteric arts and had few desires.
