2.43

河東羅崇之餌松脂不食五穀。云受道中條山。有穴通崑崙蓬萊。得見仙人往來。帝令還鄉立壇祈請。詔河東給所須。崇入穴百步。遂窮召還。有司以誣罔不道。奏罪之。世祖赦之。以開待賢之意。

Luo Chongzhi of Hedong consumed pine resin and did not eat the five grains. He claimed to have received the Dao on Mount Zhongtiao, where there was a cavern connecting to Kunlun and Penglai, and said that he had seen immortals coming and going. The Emperor ordered him to return to his hometown, build an altar, and pray, decreeing that Hedong supply his needs. Luo entered the cavern for a hundred paces, but it ended abruptly, and he was summoned back. The officials deemed him guilty of deceit and improper conduct and memorialised to punish him. Shizu pardoned him so as to demonstrate his intention to welcome worthy men.
