制問寶度法師。說既同德同行。云何解此語。寶度奉答。若律中事是優波離所出。經事悉是阿難所出。
The Imperial decree asked Dharma Master Baodu: "Since your speech accords with the same virtue and the same conduct, how do you understand these words?" Baodu respectfully replied: "Matters in the Vinaya were compiled by Upāli, whereas matters in the sūtras were all compiled by Ānanda."
