If one claims that pleasant sounds are joy, then amidst the dense ensemble of strings and winds, listening should never weary them. Why is it that after a short time they grow dazed and exhausted, and their ears take no delight in hearing? One should know that this is suffering. If one claims that indulging in wine is joy, then it should satisfy one's wishes, dispel sorrows, and forever leave one free of affliction. Why is it that their spirits grow clouded, their minds muddled, and their joints ache miserably? Or, on account of this matter, they face whipping and caning, shackles and fetters, losing their lives, meeting premature death, ruining their households, and destroying their states, undergoing immeasurable suffering.
