If one claims that glory and rank are joy, then they should remain unchanging from beginning to end, free of shame and disgrace. Why is it that between demotion and promotion, joy and distress arrive at once? The items above are stated in broad terms. Indeed, wherever the six sense objects and five emotions wander, there is nothing that is not suffering. Therefore, the Great Sage perceived that the three realms are a prison, knew suffering, and was not deluded, achieving liberation from birth and death.
