見行布施持戒人開解脫門。願其早止。見行忍辱精進人自不能行。願早退沒。見多聞修定者。自不能行不欲使作。見行慈悲喜捨者。不能贊勉欲其不行。見菜蔬一食者。自不行故勸令退敗。見行伏心人應慚愧法。乃勸不行乖八正道。

Seeing someone who practices giving and keeps the precepts opening the gate of liberation, one wishes that they would stop soon. Seeing someone who practices patience and vigor, unable to practice it oneself, one wishes that they would quickly fall back and perish. Seeing someone of extensive hearing who cultivates meditation, unable to practice it oneself, one does not want them to do it. Seeing someone who practices loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, unable to praise and encourage them, one wishes that they would not practice it. Seeing someone who eats only vegetables and takes a single meal, because one does not practice it oneself, one urges them to fall back and abandon it. Seeing someone who practices subduing the mind and ought to feel shame and remorse, one even urges them not to practice it, running contrary to the eightfold noble path.
