若見榮位通顯。乘肥衣輕適意自在。復有卑陋猥賤人不齒錄。塗炭溝渠坐臥糞穢。此苦可厭。勸令修福除滅憍慢奉行謙敬。豈可他人常貴我常在賤。

If one sees those in glorious and prominent stations, riding well-fed horses and wearing light furs, carefree and comfortable as they please, while there are also the lowly, base, and despised, whom people do not deign to mention, cast into ditches and mires, sitting and lying in filth and excrement—such suffering is wretched. One urges them to cultivate merit, eliminate arrogance, and practice humility and respect. How could it be that others are always noble while I am always lowly?
